Looking for some wedding photography tips?

This article will share with you four essential tips on wedding photography that can instantly improve your shots and elevate your skill.

1. Practice makes perfect.

This is particularly true for novice wedding photographers. Do not go to the wedding ad-lib and unacquainted with the territory. Days before the wedding event, you should visit the church and the reception site. Visualize how the event will play out. Find the right angles. Identify the best lighting. Determine the most memorable backdrops for your wedding shots. You cannot do these things on the day of the wedding itself.

As many veteran wedding photographers will tell you: come the day of the wedding, you'll be busier than the couple themselves. This is, without a doubt, the most significant of the four tips on wedding photography we will be talking about in this article.

2. Lighting heightens mood.

The right kind of lighting will make the most common pictures stand out. The wrong kind of lighting will make the most poignant moments look flat. Determine if the locations for the shoot have enough indoor lighting which you can manipulate to set the right mood for your shots.

If the indoor lighting is not sufficient, you may need to find the right settings for your camera's ISO, shutter speed and aperture. Also, a tripod may come in handy to keep the right exposures for the kind of lighting you desire.

3. Background enhances moment.

That most of the photos will feature the couple is a given. However, how the couple is presented will determine your worth as a wedding photographer. There are many tips on wedding photography, but this is one of the most critical, do not forget to experiment with your backgrounds.

Variety is recommended to break the monotony of the church and reception backdrops. It is common for wedding photographers to "steal" the couple for a few minutes - usually on the way to the reception from the church, and take them to nearby places with better photographic opportunities for memorable images.

4. Your equipment is your partner.

If wedding photography is your business, then your equipment, namely your camera, is your business partner. Nowadays, a great majority of wedding photographers have switched to digital cameras because of the ease and convenience it provides when it comes to manipulating settings and images.

A digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera is the norm, with at least 6 megapixels of resolution. You should also bring with you a variety of lenses and a backup camera come the day of the wedding. Having said this about equipment please don't get too hung up on equipment, it is after all just a tool to capture images, you the photographer are the main creator of images to remember. So, in learning how to photograph a wedding, pay attention to these tips. Also remember to take more than one camera with you!
